EUDR Is Coming: Is Your Commodity Website Ready?
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is not just a compliance requirement — it's a digital communication challenge.
What EUDR Means for Your Website
Under EUDR, companies placing commodities (cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya, wood) on the EU market must prove:
- Deforestation-free production: Products weren't grown on land that was deforested after December 31, 2020
- Legal production: Products comply with all relevant laws of the country of production
- Due diligence statement: A statement demonstrating that the above two conditions are met
The Digital Trust Problem
Even if your supply chain is fully compliant, if your website doesn't communicate that compliance credibly, EU buyers will de-risk by choosing a competitor whose compliance is visible online.
Your website needs:
- A dedicated compliance section explaining your EUDR due diligence system
- Traceability documentation (or at minimum, an explanation of how traceability works)
- Third-party certification visibility — FSC, PEFC, or equivalent
- Geolocation data transparency — how you document and verify plot locations
- Supply chain partner verification — who you source from and how they're vetted
The Opportunity
EUDR creates a forced upgrade cycle for commodity company websites. Companies that treat this as a checkbox compliance exercise will have weak digital presence. Companies that treat it as a trust-building opportunity will win buyer confidence.
